Foto Filer provides a simple method of assigning meaningful names to digital photos and does not use a proprietary database. Foto Filer also allows the user to create albums as well enhance photos using tools such as cropping and red-eye reduction.

Foto Filer was developed out of the need to provide meaningful names to photos captured and then downloaded from digital cameras to the PC. No commercially available software provides such a simple way to assign a name to a photograph as the Foto Filer approach does. And Foto Filer does not utilize a proprietary software database allowing the user to share a renamed photo with someone on another computer. When a photo is downloaded from the camera to the PC, the name assigned to the photo by the camera (manufacturer) is the same name assigned the photo when stored on the PC. Unless somewhere along the line it is changed, the name of the photo will have no bearing on what the photo represents. Soon the collection of photos on the PC looks like grandmas collection of photos in the shoebox. Foto Filer provides the means to make this name change with little effort. Foto Filer will display an image, or series of images, and by simply typing a name into a text box that relates to the picture presented, the picture is renamed. A picture of a dog can be called “Big Dog” for instance. There is no need to enter the format type of the photo (.JPG), or any of the folder information (C:\MYPICTURES\). Foto Filer handles all this in the background. If a large number of photos need to be renamed, Foto Filer can also be used to automatically generate sequentially assigned photo names for either the entire group of pictures or a selected number of the pictures in a group. Foto Filer also provides the means to insert a common prefix to each new photo renamed. In addition to its primary function of renaming photos, Foto Filer also provides the ability to create an unlimited number of non-proprietary albums in which the photos can quickly be stored and cataloged. I have been using Foto Filer now for 4 months and I love it. I used to have such a hassle changing the names and filing my pictures in windows that I just lost interest in doing it at all. Since I have been using Foto Filer, all that has changed. Now I download my pictures, then I start by assigning them sequential numbers using the auto assign feature. Then I use the slide show feature to see which pictures I want to save and those I want to toss out. I then mark all the garbage shots and move all those to a trash can folder. Then I go through the remaining pictures and just type in a name that describes the picture. I just finished using it to rename about 3000 pictures that I have been collecting on my PC. Now I am really organized! The other thing I like about Foto Filer is that the developers keep improving it. Since I bought it, I have received two upgrades for nothing. The latest upgrade includes a neat feature that lets me move a bunch of pictures to a special folder with one press of the command button. I wish I had this when I was renaming all those pictures because it would have made the job even easier than it was. Anyhow, I really like this software, and I don't usually recommend software to others but I would this one. At least give it a try. They offer a free months trial so you can check it out yourself and make your own mind up. |
